Water Temperature in St Barts
Sea, pools and jacuzzis: everything you need to know about swimming
Sea Temperature in Saint-Barthélemy
The Caribbean Sea surrounding Saint-Barthélemy offers remarkably pleasant temperatures year-round, ranging between 79°F (26°C) and 84°F (29°C). This thermal consistency makes the island a prime destination for swimming, regardless of the season.
A surprising paradox: It often feels warmer in the water than outside! In January and February, when the trade winds blow and air temperatures hover around 75-77°F (24-25°C), the water maintains a temperature of 79°F (26°C). This can create the strange sensation of warming up when entering the water.
Conversely, during hot summer days (August-September), when temperatures reach 90-91°F (32-33°C) in the shade, many hope to find relief in the ocean. Surprise: the water reaches 84°F (29°C), offering little contrast with the outside temperature. At these times, an unheated pool (around 79-81°F / 26-27°C) can paradoxically be more refreshing than the sea!
The saving grace of the sun: Even when the water seems cool in winter, the powerful tropical sun compensates instantly. As soon as you get out of the water, its rays quickly warm your skin, making swimming always comfortable. It's this unique combination - mild water and generous sunshine - that makes the Caribbean so charming.

Sea vs Air: Surprising Comparisons
With the trade winds cooling the atmosphere, the sea becomes your ally. You literally warm up when entering the ocean! The sun does the rest by drying you quickly.
Only 3-4°C difference! The water is so warm it only refreshes moderately. This is when an unheated pool (26-27°C) becomes more pleasant than the ocean.
